In addition to his training, he also served in the combat campaigns of Operation Iraqi Freedom I and II. He has been awarded five Army Commendation Medals, two Army Achievement Medals, two Good Conduct Medals, the Iraqi Campaign Medal, the Non-Commissioned Officer Development Ribbon, and a host of other accolades and awards. He departed the military in 2005, wearing the rank of Sergeant.

During his tour of duty he worshiped with the saints at the Beauregard Church of Christ, in Deridder, LA, under the superb leadership of Bro. Jasper L. Newsome. It was here that he developed a desire to preach and was mentored in this direction. While in Louisiana, Bro. Newsome introduced him to a wonderful woman by the name of Clarissa S. (formerly known as Carner) Jones, who later became his wife. She was a college student in Beaumont, TX; therefore, placing Bro. Jones there also. While residing in Beaumont, he attended the Northside Church of Christ under the excellent direction of Dr. Joel V. Brown, Sr. Bro. Jones proudly served as Youth Minister for this fine congregation, until his departure to Fort Hood, TX. In Fort Hood, TX, he worshiped and worked with the saints at the 10th St. and Ave M Church of Christ in Temple, TX under the awesome direction of Bro. William Donaldson. He remained there until his completion of military service in 2005; at such time, he worshipped at the Southern Hills Church of Christ in Dallas, TX under the direction of Dr. James O. Maxwell.

Today, Brother Kevin D. Jones, Sr. is an honor graduate from Southwestern Christian College, where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Religious Studies in May of 2009. He currently labors at the Eastland Church of Christ in Fort Worth, TX where he proudly serves as the Congregational Minister. He is happily married to the beautiful Sis. Clarissa Jones, who has been his “Bride” since 2002 and he is also the father of Ja’Leeah Juanita-Teresa Jones and Kevin (K.J.) Jones, Jr. He accredits all of his success to the guidance of his mother, The Late and Great Juanita Jones, his helpmeet and friend Mrs. Clarissa Jones, and to the Almighty and Most High God, who educates, blesses, comforts, and guides him every day.
